All tournaments are 5 games; students play other students in the same grade. Tournament play begins at 9:30 a.m., and ends no later than 1:30 p.m. Registration opens at 8:30 a.m. (this gives students one full hour to practice before the start of round one – “the early bird gets the worm”). Tournaments are open to all K - 8th grade students. A total of 27 trophies will be awarded (3 trophies awarded in each grade), and those who do not earn a trophy will receive a chess medal for participation. Lunch is included. Chess boards and chess sets will be provided, and are available for sale throughout the tournament. Each tournament is independent of one another. What?	A five round chess tournament.
When? / Where?	See above schedule and times.
Who?	Open to all students K-8th grades. All students should register in advance. On site entries will be accepted if space is available. Entries should be sent in ASAP since space is limited to the first 100 students registered and no entries will be accepted after the 100th entry.
Why?	To have fun playing chess and competing in a friendly environment with the emphasis on sportsmanship. Proper chess etiquette is encouraged and enforced.
How?	Students will be grouped by grade level, and will only play other students in their grade. There will be 9 sections K - 8th grade (please be sure to list your pupil’s grade on the registration form!).
Cost?	Each tournament costs $30 in advance, and includes lunch. Advance entries must be postmarked 7 days prior to the tournament. An extra $5 will be charged for on site entries.
Any Discounts?	*YES! Special Discount: enroll in 4 tournaments – get one free entry to the next one. Enroll two siblings and receive $5 back, enroll three or more siblings and receive $15 back.*

Check in time: Everyone must be checked in by 9:20 a.m. in order to be paired for the first round. Students will receive a name badge with their grade and I.D. #, and a lunch voucher (Lunch includes pizza, a drink (pop or juice), a banana, and a dessert) at the door.

Awards ceremony: Trophies will be awarded to the top 3 finishers in each grade level. There will be 27 total trophies awarded. In the event of a tie, a 5 minute playoff game will be used to determine the winner.
